Resident Evil:Afterlife Is First Of New Planned Trilogy, Will Be In 3D

Paul W.S. Anderson tells Shock Till You Drop that Resident Evil: Afterlife will be his 4th RE film, but not a full sequel. Instead the series will be revamped and start as a whole new trilogy. Afterlife will have a bigger budget than the previous films and will see the return of old characters and new ones. The film will also be joining that whole 3D fad that decided to rear its head up from the 70′s.

“I always envisioned Resident Evil as a trilogy of films, “he said. “And we’ve been very lucky where it’s a trilogy where the audience has built and built. I wanted to kick off a brand new trilogy. I’m really excited we’re doing it [in 3-D] and we’re using the same camera system [James] Cameron used for Avatar. There are a lot of exciting things about this one. I don’t regard it as Resident Evil 4, I regard it as a re-tooling and rebirth of the entire franchise.”

Our guess is that Paul will take the Fast And Furious approach; by having a film that ignores previous events and rewrites the series history. This is good news for die hard Resident Evil fans. Maybe, just maybe we can have a RE film that doesn’t stray so far from the source material. We’re looking at you Extinction.

Awesome news for the fans! The previous movies were a disgrace to the storyline. I’m not a director but I’m puzzled by making it 3D. I doubt the mainstream will be as excited as the fans though, just because there have already been 3 previous films.
