Left 4 Dead 2 Update Brings Zombie Bots, Bug Fixin

left4dedpatched31

Valve has just detailed it’s next update for Left 4 Dead 2. Playing as a losing Infected team and having your team mates drop out really sucks. So Valve is helping all those lonely infected teams out by adding zombie bots that can help out and replace those dropped members. How they will be controlled has yet to be discussed but squad commanding comes to mind. (Oops. We had a brain fart. They’ll just be A.I controlled)

Another fix will be the removal of Auto Respawning. A small but important issue when trying to catch the drop on survivors. This update is being worked on along side the new DLC Chapter “The Passing” Release dates for both are still unknown. The current status of “The Passing” is recording sessions with the cast. Look for “The Passing” sometime this spring.

Valve has a Christmas treat for you those of you PC Left 4 Dead 2 players (and possibly console owners). The SDK, also know as Software Development Kit is now available for download via Steam. The SDK allows user created content in many forms. Unique maps, A.I Director manipulation, and scavenge mode support are all part of this pack. Valve also states that there are tools available to compile user generated Left 4 Dead 1 maps into Left 4 Dead 2 no problem. The possibilities are endless, let’s wait and see what the community can cook up in just 24 hours after release.

That’s right, the original survivors will be making a come back! In the first DLC announced for Left 4 Dead 2 the original survivors will meet up with the new 4 that you take control of in the sequel. The DLC is titled “The Passing” and takes place in rural Georgia shortly after the events of Left 4 Dead 2’s Dead Center campaign. The DLC is also said to bring a new Uncommon common, new weapons and new survivor and scavenge maps. No word if the original cast will be playable. We hope for the ability to choose who from the 8 we can play as. The DLC is set to release sometime this spring.

Left 4 Dead Online Friends Appearing in Sequel, Linking Confirmed?

IMG00037-20091029-2041

While playing the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, we noticed that our friends who were playing the original Left 4 Dead were showing up in in the main menu. Now why would players from the original Left 4 Dead have their online status displayed in Left 4 Dead 2? The only thing that comes to mind is the rumor/experimenting with linking the games that was on the web not too long ago. Valve aimed to bring both sides of Left 4 Dead fans together and stated they were attempting to link the 2 games. This little message under “Online Friends” in the main menu of Left 4 Dead 2 gives the rumor a big tank sized injection of reality. Hopefully this means we won’t have to leave Bill, Zoey, Francis and Louis behind. Only Valve and their super big vault of secrets know that answer. For now, we will have to wait a few more weeks till full release.

Left 4 Dead 2 To Have Avatar Awards (Update)

c5m2_cemetery_01-1024Avatar

Hidden within the Left 4 Dead 2 demo, Steam user Fade Guy found what appears to be a listing of Avatar Awards for the Xbox 360 version of Left 4 Dead 2. The list is as follows:

Med Kit: Earned by beating all five campaigns.
Bull Shifters Shirt: earned by winning 10 games of Versus.
A Left 4 Dead 2 shirt: Earned by winning 10 games of Scavenge.
Zombie Hand Shirt: Earned by killing 10,000 Infected.
Depeche Mode Shirt: Earned by rescuing Gnome Chompski from the Dark Carnival.

Left 4 Dead 2 will be the 2nd game to support this feature. The first was Xbox Live Arcade’s Splosion Man. This is a great new feature that Microsoft added to the NXE and Left 4 Dead 2 items makes us happy in the pants. They don’t seem too hard to unlock either. Sadly there is no Zombie Genocide shirt. It would prove that we too have “covered wars you know”

Update: G4 confirms the Awards with video proof. Hit the jump for the preview.

Left 4 Dead 2 Achievements Revealed

Xbox 360 Achievements have just posted the 50 Left 4 Dead 2 achievements on their site. The final 2 campaigns “Dead Center” and “Hard Rain” are revealed in the achievements as well. That puts us at all 5 campaigns revealed. They aren’t very spoilerific so don’t be afraid to check them out. What is not not so much a secret is the Defibrillator and a Bile Bomb. The Defibrillator will probably be used to revive near dead survivors or replace the med packs, we will have to play hands on to answer that. The Bile Bomb works alot like a boomers vomit attack but is used by the CDC like CEDA agents found in Left 4 Dead 2. They seem to have reverse engineered the attack to work to the humans benefits. Hit the jump for the full list or visit Xbox 360 Achievements directly for some Achievement icons.
