Deadly Premonition (Formerly know as Rainy Woods) is a very difficult game to describe. It was originally planned for a 2008 release but complications due to its striking similarity to the David Lynch television show Twin Peaks caused it to be delayed. Deadly Premonition requires a special mindset to fully understand what makes its so great. In other words, it’s an acquired taste. From a “normal” point of view the game would be trash due to the graphics alike the last generation of games, stiff controls and sketchy voice acting. But ladies and gentlemen, that is what makes this game so damn fun. So many things are wrong in this game but that’s what makes it work. (more…)

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is the latest entry in the long running horror series Silent Hill. A franchise know for it’s disturbing imagery, cultic religious themes and it’s ability to wow the player with more thought required stories than M. Night Shyamalan could ever cook up. As one of the most controversial games of the year, Left 4 Dead 2 is now in the public’s hands and perhaps even those who once boycotted it. But is Left 4 Dead 2 worth full price? My first question regarding Resident Evil 4 goes something like this: How does the game go from a subtly crafted, genuinely eerie walk into a damned village, to a slow-mo helicopter shootout cinematic that reeks of grand Hollywood style gimmicks? It certainly is preposterous to be sure, but by the time the helicopter bit has come around, the player has long since given up on a repeat of the spine-tingling atmospherics that were on such fine display at the beginning of the game. At this point, the game has clearly abandoned any aspirations of being a genuine horror game, and is quite content with comfortably slipping into the action mold. Is this a bad thing? Is this a crime? Well…yes, and no.

Some time after the events of Resident Evil 1, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield had their own set of ghoulish experiences in Raccoon City. No longer being isolated to the infamous Umbrella mansion, the virus has quickly spread to the streets of the city. The only citizens who weren’t infected by the epidemic, were eaten by those who were. What’s more, a special strain of the virus has been developed by the crazed William Birkin, which when injected, is capable of mutating a human being into the “perfect biological weapon”. Once the two heroes arrive at their first destination, the Raccoon City police department, they find that it is crawling with zombies, a strange new type of mutant, and a particularly powerful monstrosity that’s wandering throughout the station, terrorizing any survivors who are unfortunate enough to cross its path.
