8 New Alan Wake Screens

AlanWake_04_NPC_720p - Copy

After another few months of quiet, Remedy has decided to grace the world with 8 new screens from their upcoming game Alan Wake. Nothing really revealing here, just some cool stances by the lead Alan Wake himself and some combat. We have been seeing this particular area of the game quite a bit. Our guess is that Remedy wants to shroud the games locales as much as possible to keep us guessing. We’ll just have to wait till later this year to find out what they’re hiding.

GC09: Alan Wake Commentary Trailer

GC09: Alan Wake Commentary Trailer

Remedy have taken Alan Wake to Gamescom this year, and with it comes a brand new trailer complete with commentary. I’m pretty sure I’ve played a game where a couple go to a tranquil town and crazy shit happens, but it looks good nonetheless! Alan Wake is finished, currently being polished and will release exclusively on Xbox 360 in Spring 2010. See the video after the jump.

Alan Wake is Xbox 360 exclusive

Alan Wake is Xbox 360 exclusive

Nowadays, “exclusive” also often means on PC as well – but not this time. Despite being “exclusive to the Xbox 360″ before, it’s now really really exclusive in that PC players won’t be getting it because “joint PC/Xbox launch is not possible at this late stage” according to the game’s writer Sam Lake, even though it has been delayed over and over.

However, he did also state that a PC launch could be possible in the future, but it would be up to their publisher, Microsoft, to make the call.

Alan Wake Is Just The First Season [Update]

When we found out that Remedy’s Alan Wake was going to have episodic chapters we weren’t very amazed. That technique for story telling in a video game had been done before. But now when we find out that Alan Wake is just the first “season” in a series we kind were a bit surprised. Sam Jarvi of Remedy told LEVEL that Alan Wake is just a piece of a bigger story.

“Yeah we see Alan Wake like a DVD-box containing the first season of a bigger story…It is like a TV-series that became a game. The story is cut into episodes that are all ending with a cliffhanger.”

Does this mean a sequel is planned? Will it be shrouded in mystery like Alan Wake has been up until recently? We have contacted Remedy for clarification.

Update: PR person Oskari tell us this; “what the future holds in concern to sequels I have unfortunately nothing more to tell.” So no confirmation, no denial. If the sequels look as good as what we have seen so far with Wake then bring them on Remedy.

Alan Wake To Have Episodes, Not Levels

Levels wouldn’t be the appropriate term to use according to Remedy’s lead writer Sam Lake who states that Alan Wake will play out like a television series. “The story is divided into episodes…” Sam tells E3 journalists. This story telling mechanic has been used before in Alone In The Dark. Before each new episode a “Previously on…” segment will begin reminding players of what important things have occurred. This doesn’t mean that the game will be linear. “We have a large game world, but the story guides you. So, there is a logical pathway for the player…a lot of exploration” Alan Wake is set to arrive 2010.
